These boots were standard issue to French soldiers, with very minor modifications in 1912 and 1916, from Fashoda to Algiers. The US Army also issued French boots to its soldiers as a stopgap measure in 1917 when the issue M1904 Marching Shoe proved a total failure in the trenches.
