When the Krag rifle was first adopted, the bayonet scabbard featured an open belt hook that slid over the belt and was only held on by friction. After many bayonet losses, the US Army modified the scabbards in 1899 with the clamp hook commonly found today. Very few of the original scabbards escaped this modification.

Our reproduction has the detent stops on the swivel to keep the scabbard from inverting and dropping the bayonet.
