Indian Army Khaki Sweater with Pockets and Epaulets. This is the sweater immortalized in the WWII cartoon series "The Two Types." A heavy weight all wool sweater popular with British officers on the Northwest Frontier, it was worn in the Western Desert in WWII as a sign that the wearer had "been there," as opposed to being fresh from Blighty. Two front chest pockets, epaulets for wearing rank slides, cotton elbow patches. $45 Add to Cart

P-37 BATTLEDRESS: There were no giants in WWII. If you are exceptionally tall or wide, there is no battledress of any kind to fit you except reproductions. Even if you are a normal WWII size, real British BD is extremely scarce. Jackets in normal sizes can be found by diligent searching; trousers are nearly impossible.

Note that my BD copies the earliest pattern of BD. The field dressing pocket on the trousers has no button and only a single pleat. The jacket copies only the first adopted modification, which was a cotton lining on the collar. Para trousers copy the simpler pattern usually seen in photos. They have the internal knife pocket on the right seam. Cargo pocket is lined with cotton drill. Chamois was a bad idea, as the Paras found out the first time it got wet in the field.

Jackets size 38-52, even sizes, Regular and Long; 48 Stout, 50 Extra Stout, $135 Add to Cart
(NOTE: 48 Stout has a 46" waist, 50 Extra Stout has a 50" waist)

Para Trousers, sizes 30, 32, 34, 38, 40, 42 (best to order one size larger than normal). $135

Jackets are sized in between original British WWII leanness and typical modern male obesity, with jacket waist sizes 6 inches smaller than the chest size of the jacket. For the less svelte, I have sizes 44XL-52XL. This size range has a 2 inch taper (48 chest = 46 waist). And for those with no body taper at all, I have a few in sizes 48XXL and 50XXL. If in doubt, order a larger jacket. Remember, these jackets are simply constructed and very easy to tailor.

P-37 Trousers and Para Trousers inseam length is 34".

Remember that your "military" waist is above the navel, not where your jeans ride. If in doubt, order a larger size. If you have a significant bulge above your jeans, a long size jacket might better encompass it, although you might have to shorten the sleeves.

P40 Battledress, the 'economy' pattern of Battledress first seen around 1942. This pattern had plain patch pockets and exposed brown buttons. These are available in the same sizes as P37 Battledress

Denim Jackets and Trousers, Reproduction, early WWII pattern P-37. These are copied exactly from an original set. Colors of early denims seem to have varied widely, from olive green to brown. Mine are an olive green color that fades out to match exactly the originals I have had. They do not match the later war and postwar sandy green denims. Jackets have the pleated pockets and pants have belt loops and ankle tabs of the early pattern. Sizes the same as my wool BD uniforms. Order your normal size for a regular fit or order a size larger to fit over wool BD.

British Army Sweaters. Commonly known as jumpers, jerseys, or pullovers, this is the standard issue V-neck sweater issued to all British soldiers. This all wool reproduction is available in sizes 36-46, $48
OUT OF STOCK

NOTE: These sweaters are made rather short, but fortunately, they stretch out quite a bit, like any good knitted item. Just soak for a few minutes in warm water, then squeeze out the water, spread it out on a towel and let drain for a minute, then carefully pull the sweater body and/or sleeves to stretch it out. They will also stretch out normally when you wear them.

Commando Sweater. A new reproduction of this very rare sweater with the distinctive drawstring neck closure. First issued to mountain troops, it became popular with Commandos and other Special Forces, and, like most SF gear, saw increasing use by regular infantry. I have copied this sweater with the commonly seen soldier modifications. Elbow and shoulder patches, epaulets, and edging at cuffs. $65 Add to Cart

RAF/Royal Navy white roll neck "sumbarine" sweater. WPG had recreated the classic white turtleneck sweater commonly associated with submarine and small boat crews. It was also highly popular with the RAF. Order by chest size 40-52. $68
Gas Capes. A perfect reproduction of the early war British gas cape in solid Olive Green color. These are made with oilcloth like the originals, but are not sticky. British soldiers soon found that these made excellent raincoats, and used them accordingly. Mine are also good rainwear, but you will have to seal the seams with a tent seam sealer available at any sporting goods store. Available in sizes M, L, XL. Hood not included. $65

British Tanker CoverallsTanker Coveralls.
I found a few British Army khaki drill coveralls, as used by armored vehicle crews in warm weather areas, like the Desert. These are Indian made, 1944 dated, and unissued. These have a left chest and left thigh pocket, pass through side pockets, belted back, gunmetal buttons. They appear to be the largest size made. Fits my 46 chest nicely, a bit tight across the back of the shoulders, roomy everywhere else. Ample length for my 6' height. These are unissued. Limited quantities, $75
